What is the IMPACTSO Index and how does it work
The IMPACTSO Index is a free self-assessment tool that shows an organization what level it has reached in measuring and managing social impact. It takes about 3 minutes to complete and gives an instant overview of strengths and weaknesses across eight areas — pillars whose first letters form the acronym IMPACTSO. In each pillar, the organization rates itself on a 0–4 scale.
- Insightful — how well the organization understands the social problem, its causes and its impact on the target group.
- Measurable — whether it tracks clearly defined impact indicators with a baseline and regular measurement.
- Purpose-driven — whether outcomes are linked to a theory of change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Accountable — how clearly the roles, governance and ownership of impact data are defined.
- Credible — how well impact data can be verified, or whether it has undergone external evaluation or audit.
- Transparent — whether the organization reports results to stakeholders regularly and in a balanced way, including failures.
- Strategic — whether impact data actually drives decision-making, scaling and resource allocation, for example within CSR.
- Outcome-oriented — whether the organization measures real outcomes and changes for the target group, not just the number of activities.
After the questionnaire is submitted, Impactso sends the results to the organization's email and to its own team, and offers a free 30-minute consultation to discuss the result and plan concrete next steps.
